For everything that was written before [in God's word] was written for our instruction [to give us instructions], so that through endurance (steadfastness) and through comfort (encouragement, exhortation) the Scriptures give us, we may [always] keep hope [our hope – an expectation and a belief in the future, see Rom. 8:20–21].
