First letter to the Corinthians 1:26

[Paul now moves on from the gospel, where the message of the cross is foolishness, and addresses the people whom God calls. This passage has the same theme as verses 17-20, and has been given the same heading to clarify the chiastic pattern.]
Brothers and sisters (in faith),
just look back at when you yourselves were called.
In a worldly sense (according to the flesh),
not many of you were wise,
not many were influential (powerful),
not many were of noble birth.
[God's calling is not based on human wisdom and external circumstances.]
