First letter to the Corinthians 7:7

Ideally, I would like everyone to be like me.
But each person has their own gift from God,
one in one way, another in another.
[We do not know much about Paul's marital history. We know that he studied under the rabbi Gamaliel, but we do not know if he himself became a rabbi, see Acts 22:3. If so, he must have been married earlier, since marriage was a requirement for becoming a rabbi at that time. Rabbinic tradition sets a minimum age for marriage at 18 for boys (Mishnah Abot 5:21). If one is not married by the age of 20, one is cursed by God (T.B. Sanh. 76b). What we know for certain is that he is not married when he writes this letter. Perhaps Paul was a widower, as may be implied in the following verse.]
