First letter of John 1:9

If we confess (would confess) our sins [our guilt; our transgressions, missteps, and mistakes – above all before God, but also before people, see James 5:16], he is faithful [true to his own nature and his promises] and just [Deuteronomy 32:4] so that he forgives us our sins and cleanses us (would forgive us our sins and cleanse us) from all unrighteousness (wrongdoing; all wrong actions).
