First letter of John 3:12

We should not be like Cain, who was from [had his nature and motivation from] the evil one and murdered (brutally slaughtered) his brother [Abel, see Gen. 4].
Why did he murder his brother?
Because his own actions (deeds) were evil,
and his brother's actions (deeds) were righteous.
