First letter of John 4:18

Fear (dread) does not exist in [cannot coexist with] love [which is selfless and giving]; instead, perfect (mature) love casts out (drives out) fear, because fear has to do with punishment (torment). But whoever fears [is afraid of Judgment Day, see verse 17] has not been perfected (reached full maturity) in love.
[Jesus' followers belong to him and need not be afraid to meet him on Judgment Day, see John 5:24. Jesus, who now sits at the right hand of the Father in heaven, has already taken all sin upon himself when he paid the price at Calvary. We are forgiven by receiving the gift of salvation already now, here on earth, see John 3:16–17; Acts 2:38; Rom. 10:9. This forgiveness and love also affects our relationships with the people around us, see 2 Corinthians 2:14.]
