Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death [even if you must die a martyr's death for your faith], and I will give you the crown of life. [The image of a crown of victory is taken from the Greek games, where the victor was rewarded with a laurel wreath, see 1 Cor. 9:24–25.]
