Ruth 4:6

The redeemer replied: ”Then I cannot redeem, I don’t want to jeopardize my own inheritance. You take my right to redeem, because I can’t do it.”
[The reason why the redeemer declines may be that he is already married, or is a widower. More children would reduce the inheritance for his children and his family. Another reason could be Ruth’s nationality. It could be the word in Num. 23:3–6 that outweighed the concern for Naomi and Ruth.]
