Then Saul said, "Go out among the people and tell them, 'Each one, bring your ox and your sheep and slaughter them here and eat. But do not sin against the Lord (Yahweh) by eating blood.'" So all the people brought their oxen that night and slaughtered them there. [The prohibition against eating meat with blood is also linked to the prohibition against blood sacrifices to bring forth spirits, a custom described in several Hittite texts, see Lev. 19:26; 17:11–12.]
