And David came to Bahurim. Behold, there came out a man of the family of Saul's house, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera. He came out and cursed continually as he came.
And they went back and forth at the ford to bring over the king's household and to do what was good in his eyes. When Shimei, the son of Gera, was about to cross the Jordan, he fell down before the king's face.
And behold, there is with you Shimei, the son of Gera, the Benjaminite from Bahurim, who cursed me with a grievous curse on the day I went to Mahanaim [2 Sam. 16:5–19], but he came down and met me at the Jordan, and I swore to him by the Lord (Yahweh), saying, 'I will surely kill you with the sword.' [2 Sam. 19:16–23]
