The root of the word is closely related to the word shalom which means peace. Salmon married Rahab (Rachav), a Gentile from Jericho, see , about 1400 BC.]
Ram became the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab became the father of Nahshon, prince of the children of Judah.
Nahshon became the father of Salma, and Salma became the father of Boaz.
