Acts 11:26

When he found him, he brought him to Antioch. For a year they were with the church and taught a large number of people.
It was in Antioch that the disciples were first called Christians (followers of Christ).
[Previously, the believers had been called "The Way," see Acts 9:2. Another name was followers of "the Nazarene sect," since Jesus was from Nazareth and was called a Nazarene, see Acts 24:5; Matt. 2:23. Here in Antioch, people began to call them "Christians," probably in a derogatory tone. The Greek word christianos literally means "followers of the Anointed One" or, transcribed, "Christ followers" and is found only three times in the New Testament, here and in Acts 26:28; 1 Pet. 4:16. This type of new compound word was not uncommon; in Matt. 22:16, those who supported King Herod are called "Herodians."]
