First letter to the Corinthians 9:17


If I do this willingly [preach the gospel and voluntarily renounce my rights, see verses 12, 15, 18]
I have my reward (recompense),
but if I do it because I must
it is a stewardship entrusted to me.
[This is the center and main point of the passage. Paul is faithful to his mission, see 1 Cor. 4:2. It is a stewardship, see Luke 17:10.]
