But the men who had gone up with him said, "We are not able to go up against the people, for they are much stronger than we are." And Joshua, the son of Nun, and Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had explored (investigated – Hebr. tor) the land, tore their clothes.
But my servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit and has followed me wholeheartedly, I will bring into the land where he walked, and his descendants will possess it. [; ]
you shall certainly not enter the land, for which I raised my hand that I would let you dwell there, except Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua, the son of Nun.
But Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua, the son of Nun, remained alive of these men who had gone and explored the land.

Caleb, son of Jephunneh.
except Caleb, the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it [], and to him I will give the land on which he has set his foot, and to his children, because he has followed the Lord (Yahweh) wholeheartedly. [; ]

Then the sons of Judah came near to Joshua at Gilgal, and Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, said to him: "You know (are intimately familiar with) the things that the Lord (Yahweh) spoke to Moses the man of God concerning me and you at Kadesh-Barnea.
And Joshua blessed him and gave Hebron to Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, as an inheritance.
Therefore, Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, to this day, because he wholly followed the Lord (Yahweh), the God of Israel (Yahweh Elohim).
And to Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, he gave a portion among the sons of Judah according to the commandment of the Lord to Joshua, Kiriath-Arba, the Arba whose father was Anak, that is, Hebron.
And Caleb drove out the three sons of Anak, Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai, the sons of Anak.
And Caleb said, "Whoever strikes Kirjat-Seph and takes it, to him I will give my daughter Achsah as a wife."
And Othniel, the son of Kenaz, Caleb's brother, took it, and he gave him his daughter Achsah as his wife.
And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt thou?
But the fields of the city and its villages they gave to Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, as his possession.
And Caleb said, "Whoever strikes Kirjat-Seph and takes it, to him I will give my daughter Achsa as a wife."
And Othniel, the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it, and he gave him his daughter Achsah as his wife.
And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she persuaded him to ask her father for a field, and she got down from her donkey, and Caleb said to her, "What do you want?" []
And she answered, "Give me a blessing [extra favor], since you have given me the South Country, therefore give me springs of water." And Caleb gave her the Upper Spring and the Lower Spring [].
And they gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses had said, and they drove out from there the three sons of Anak [; ; ].
And when the sons of Israel cried out to the Lord (Yahweh), the Lord (Yahweh) raised up a savior (rescuer) for the sons of Israel who saved them—Othniel [the lion of God], the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother.
We raided the Kerethites in the south and the territory of Judah and the territory of Caleb in the south, and we burned Ziklag with fire."
The sons of Caleb [one of the twelve explorers, see ], the son of Jephunneh, were Iru, Elah, and Naam, as were the sons of Elah and Kenaz.
but the arable land and villages belonging to the city were given to Caleb, the son of Jephunneh.
