And Leah said, "God (Elohim) has given (Hebr. zavad) me a good dowry (Hebr. zeved), now my husband will be with (Hebr. zaval) me, since I have borne him six sons." And she named (called) him Zebulun (Hebr. Zevolun). [The name means exalted, but also dwelling place, habitat.]
Leah's [six] sons:
Reuben, Jacob's firstborn,
and Simeon
and Levi
and Judah
and Issachar
and Zebulun (Hebr. Zevolun).
The sons of Zebulun (Hebr. Zevolun):
Sered, Elon, and Jahleel.
Zebulun [Hebr. Zevolun means "exalted"] shall dwell by the seashore
and he shall become a haven
(Hebr. chof) (safe harbor – Hebr. chof) for ships
and his side
[border] shall face
Sidon.
[Zebulun is blessed before his older brother Issachar. This prophecy is interesting because the land that Zebulun is eventually assigned is not located on the Mediterranean coast or the Sea of Galilee, but in a small area between them. Over time, however, they gain access to both the Mediterranean and the Sea of Galilee, as the Via Maris passes through their territory and they later distinguish themselves as seafarers.] Issachar (Hebr. From Zebulun (Hebr. Zevolun): Eliab, son of Helon.
The sons of Zebulun, their generations, according to their families, according to the houses of their fathers, by the number of names, every man by himself, every man from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war,
this was the number of those of the tribe of Zebulun, they were 57,400.
And [the third] tribe of Zebulun.
The leader of the sons of Zebulun is Eliab, son of Helon,
On the 3th day, Eliab, son of Helon, leader of the sons of Zebulun, offered his sacrifice.
And over the army of the tribe of the sons of Zebulun was Eliab, son of Helon.
From the tribe of Zebulun, Gadiel, son of Sodi.
The sons of Zebulun according to their families:
Of Sered, the family of the Seredites,
of Elon, the family of the Elonites,
of Jahleel, the family of the Jahleelites.
These are the families of Zebulun, those who were counted of them, 60,500.

And from the tribe of the sons of Zebulun, a leader,
Elizaphan, son of Parnach.
And these [six tribes] shall stand on Mount Ebal [present-day Imad-el-Deen, to the north] for the curse:
Reuben (Hebr. Reoven) [the eldest; Leah's firstborn];
Gad and Asher [whose mother was Zilpah – Leah's maidservant] and
Zebulun (Hebr. Zevolun);
Dan. and Naphtali [whose mother was Bilhah – Rachel's maidservant].
And to Zebulun he said, "Rejoice (be glad), Zebulun, when you go out, and Issachar in your tents.
[The third lot fell to Zebulun, who is the first of five smaller tribes in the north whose boundaries are now described.]
And the third lot fell to the sons of Zebulun according to their families, and the [southern] border of their inheritance was toward Sarid.
This is the inheritance of the sons of Zebulun according to their families, these cities with their villages.
And it turned eastward (toward the sunrise) to Beit-Dagon and reached to Zebulun and to the valley of Jiftachel northward at Beit-Emek and Niel, and it turned out to Kavol [] on the left.
And the border turned westward to Aznot-Tabor
and went from there to Chokoka
and reached Zebulun in the south
and reached Asher in the west
and to Judah at the Jordan toward the sunrise (eastward).
The sons of Merari, according to their families, received from the tribe of Reuben, from the tribe of Gad, and from the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities.
And to the families of the sons of Merari, the rest of the Levites from the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam with the open land around it, Karta with the open land around it,
Zebulun (Hebr. Zevolun) did not drive out the inhabitants of Kitron or the inhabitants of Nahalol, but the Canaanites lived among them and became forced laborers (taxpayers).
And she sent for and summoned Barak, the son of Avinoam from Kedesh-Naftali, and said to him [this is the first of three speeches to Barak given by Deborah]: "Has not the Lord, the God of Israel (Yahweh Elohim), commanded and said, 'Go and go out against Mount Tabor and take with you 10,000 men from the sons of Naphtali and from the sons of Zebulun? [There is a Kedesh northwest of Hazor and north of Lake Hula (). However, the most likely location here is Kirbet-Kedesh on the western side of the Sea of Galilee, just south of present-day Tiberias.]
And Barak summoned Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh, and they went up 10,000 men on foot, and Deborah went up with him.
Out of Ephraim came those whose roots are in Amalek,
after you Benjamin among your people,
out of Machir came princes, and out of Zebulun
those who wielded the scepter.
[There are no biological roots between Amalek and Ephraim; this refers to Joshua's defeat of Amalek. Joshua is an Ephraimite, and Amalek was the first enemy to fight against Israel in Rephidim after the exodus.]
Zebulun is a people who risk their lives even unto death,
and Naphtali on the high heights of the field.
And he sent messengers throughout Manasseh, and they also gathered after him, and he sent messengers to Asher and to Zebulun and to Naphtali, and they came up and met him.
And after him, Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel. And he judged Israel for 10 years.
And Elon the Zebulunite died and was buried in Ajalon in the land of Zebulun.
These were the sons of Israel: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun,
The descendants of Merari received twelve cities from the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun, by lot, family by family.
The rest of Merari's descendants received from the tribe of Zebulun: Rimmon with pasturelands and Tabor with pasturelands.
from Zebulun, men ready for battle, armed with all kinds of weapons, 50,000 who came wholeheartedly,
Those who lived nearest to them, as far as Issachar, Zebulun, and Naphtali, also brought them food on donkeys, camels, mules, and oxen: flour, fig cakes, raisin cakes, wine, oil, cattle, and sheep. There was joy in Israel.

The messengers went from city to city in the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, and as far as Zebulun. But they laughed at them and mocked them.
But there were some in Asher, Manasseh, and Zebulun who humbled themselves and came to Jerusalem.
There was a large part of the people, many from Ephraim and Manasseh, Issachar, and Zebulun, who had not purified themselves but ate the Passover lamb in a manner other than that prescribed. But Hezekiah had prayed for them and said, "May the Lord (Yahweh), the good one, forgive everyone
God (Elohim) has commanded your strength [that you should be strong – Israel],
be strong, O God (Elohim).
You who acted (worked) for us
For there shall be no more night-black darkness [in the land] where there is now distress (compulsion, restriction) [no gloomy melancholy shall rest upon her]. In the past (in the first age), he let the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali be despised (cursed; without blessing), but afterward [later in the days to come], he will honor (give weight to) the area around the road by the [Galilee] Sea, the land on the other side of the Jordan, the Galilee of the Gentiles.

Next to Issachar's territory, Zebulun shall have a lot, from the east side to the west.
Next to Zebulun's territory, Gad shall have a lot, from the east side to the west.
Similarly, the south side shall also measure 4,500 cubits [2.3 km] and have three gates: the first shall be the gate of Simeon, the second the gate of Issachar, and the third the gate of Zebulun.

[The twelve tribes originate from Jacob's twelve sons. This is the only list of the tribes in the New Testament and is unusual in several respects. This is the only time Jude is mentioned first, perhaps because Jesus was of that tribe, see ; ; . Jacob's eldest son, Reuben, comes second, and last comes the youngest, Benjamin, but the others do not appear in order of birth. It is important to emphasize that neither numerical nor verbal symbolism is an exact science.
