You desire, and not have; you kill and covet, and not are able to obtain; You quarrel and wrangle. Not you have, because not to ask you.

you may spend [it]..

You ask and not receive, because wrongly you ask, that in the pleasures of you, you may spend [it].

Adulteresses! Not know you that the friendship with the world, hostility with God is? Who[ever] maybe therefore shall choose a friend to be of the world, an enemy of God is appointed.

Or think you that in vain the Scripture says, With envy yearns the Spirit that he settled in us?”
6 ὑπερηφάνοις

Greater however He gives grace. Therefore it says: God [the] proud opposes, to [the] humble however gives grace.”

Do resist

φεύξεται
he will flee

do be subjected therefore to God. do resist however the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 ἐγγίσατε
Do draw near

He will draw near

Do cleanse

χεῖρας,
[your] hands,,
cheiras,
ἁμαρτωλοί,
[you] sinners,,

ἁγνίσατε
do purify

καρδίας,
hearts,,
kardias,
δίψυχοι.
[you] double-minded..
dipsychoi.
do draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. do cleanse [your] hands, [you] sinners, and do purify hearts, [you] double-minded.

ταλαιπωρήσατε
Do be grieved,,

do mourn,,

κλαύσατε·
do weep..
klaysate.

should be turned,,

κατήφειαν.

do be grieved, and do mourn, and do weep. The laughter of you, to mourning should be turned, and the joy to gloom.

Do be humbled

do be humbled in the presence of Lord, and He will exalt you.

Not do speak against one another, brothers. The [one] speaking against [his] brother or judging the brother of him, speaks against [the] Law and judges [the] Law. If however [the] Law you judge, not you are a doer of [the] Law, but a judge.

One there is Lawgiver and Judge, who is being able to save and to destroy. You however, who are you who [are] judging the neighbor?

we will go

ἐνιαυτὸν
a year,,

ἐμπορευσόμεθα
will trade,,

κερδήσομεν·

do come now, you who [are] saying, Today or tomorrow we will go into such city, and will spend there a year, and will trade, and will make a profit,

who not know what [is] on the next day [is]. What [is] the life of you? A vapor just you are, for a little [while] appearing, then also vanishing.

we will live

we will do

Instead [ought] to say you, If the Lord shall wish, both we will live and we will do this or that.
16 καυχᾶσθε
you boast

καύχησις
boasting

Now however you boast in the arrogance of you. All boasting such evil is.
17 εἰδότι
To [him] already knowing
eidoti
ποιοῦντι,
doing [it],,
poioynti,
To [him] already knowing therefore good to do, and not doing [it], sin to him it is.
