And Israel sent messengers to Sihon, king of the Amorites, saying,
But Sihon could not bear to let Israel pass through his borders. And Sihon gathered all his people and went out against Israel in the desert and came to Jahaz, and he fought against Israel.
Heshbon was the city of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab and taken all his land out of his hand as far as the Arnon.
Therefore, those who speak in parables say:
"Come to Heshbon!
Let the city of Sihon be built and founded!
For a fire has gone out from Chesbon,
a flame from the city of Sihon,
it has devoured Ar in Moab,
the lords of the high places of Arnon.
Woe to you, Moab,
you are subdued, people of Chemosh.
He has given his sons as refugees
and his daughters into captivity
– to Sihon, king of the Amorites.
And the Lord (Yahweh) said to Moses, "Do not fear him, for I have delivered him into your hand, and all his people and all his land. And you shall do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon."
And Moses gave to them, to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon, king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og, king of Bashan, the land with its cities and their borders, as well as the cities of the land around it.
after he had defeated Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon, and Og, king of Bashan, who lived in Ashtaroth near Edrei.
Get up, continue your journey, and cross the Arnon Valley. See, I have given the Amorite Sihon, king of Heshbon, and his land into your hand. Begin to occupy the land and fight against him."
And I sent messengers from the wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon, king of Heshbon, with words of peace, saying,
But Sihon, king of Heshbon, would not let us pass him, for the Lord your God (Yahweh Elohim) had hardened his spirit and made his heart stubborn, that he might give him into your hand, as it has been revealed today.
And the Lord (Yahweh) said to me, "See, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before you; begin to occupy his land."
Then Sihon came out against us, he and his people, to battle at Jahaz.
And the Lord (Yahweh) said to me, "Do not fear him, for I have given him and all his people and his land into your hand, and you shall do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon." []
And we utterly destroyed them [; ] as we did to Sihon, king of Heshbon; we destroyed all the cities, men, women, and children.
on the other side of the Jordan in the valley opposite Beit Peor in the land of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon, whom Moses and the sons of Israel defeated when they came out of Egypt.
And when you came to this place [east of the Jordan River], Sihon, king of Heshbon, and Og, king of Bashan, came out against us in battle, and we defeated them [].
The Lord (Yahweh) will do to them [the seven peoples of the land of Canaan] as he did to Shion and Og, kings of the Amorites, when he destroyed them and their land [].
We have heard how the Lord caused the Red Sea (Hebr. jam sof) [Red Sea] dry up when you left Egypt [], and how you defeated the two Amorite kings, Sihon and Og, on the other side of the [Jordan] River. []
and what he did to the two kings of the Ammonites who lived beyond the Jordan, to

Cheshbon, and to Og, king of
[the region] Bashan in
[the city] Ashtaroth.
[These two cities were located along the King's Highway, see ; , the important north-south trade route and military route east of the Jordan that connected Damascus in the north and Ezion-geber (present-day Eilat) in the south.]Sihon, king of the Amorites [; ; ; ], who lived in Heshbon and ruled from Aroer, which is on the edge of the Arnon Valley and the middle of the valley and half of Gilead to the river Jabbok, the border of the sons of Ammon,
and ruled on Mount Hermon and in Salcha and throughout Bashan to the border of the Geshurites and the Maacathites and half of Gilead to the border of Sihon, king of Heshbon.
and all the cities of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, to the border of the sons of Ammon
and all the cities in the lowlands, and all the kingdom of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses defeated with the leaders of Midian, Evi and Rekem and Tsor and Hur (Hebr. Chor) and Reva, the princes of Sihon who lived in the land,
and in the valley of Beth-Haram and Beth-Nimrah and Succoth and Zaphon, and the rest of the kingdom of Sihon, king of Heshbon, whose border is the Jordan to the farthest part of the Sea of Chinnereth beyond the Jordan to the east.
And Israel sent messengers to Sihon, king of the Amorites, king of Heshbon, and Israel said to him, "Let us pass through your land to my place, we pray."
But Sihon did not trust Israel to pass through his borders, and Sihon gathered all his people together and encamped at Jahaz and fought against Israel.
And the Lord (Yahweh), the God (Elohim) of Israel, delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they defeated them. So Israel took possession of the whole land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of the land.
Gever, son of Or – in the land of Gilead, the land that belonged to Sihon, king of the Amorites, and Og, king of Bashan, and a leader in the land (probably meaning that he was the head of the other leaders in the same area).
And you gave them kingdoms and peoples, and divided different areas among them. They took the land of Sihon, king of the land of Heshbon, and King Og of the land of Bashan.

and all the kingdoms of Canaan [; ],
Sihon, king of the Amorites,
his mercy (caring, faithful love) endures forever (eternally),
In the shadow of Cheshbon
the refugees stand without strength,
for a fire has gone forth from Cheshbon,
and a flame from the midst of Sihon
and it devours the corners of Moab
and the crown on the head of the raging ones.
