So David said to Ahimelech the Hittite and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, "Who will go down with me to Saul at the camp?" And Abishai said, "I will go down with you."
So David and Avishai came to the people by night, and behold, Saul was lying asleep inside the camp with his spear stuck in the ground at his head, and Avner and the people were lying around him.
And Avishai said to David, "God (Elohim) has delivered your enemies into your hand today, so let me strike him, I beg you, with the spear to the ground in one blow, and I will not strike him a second time."
But David said to Avishai, "Do not destroy him, for who can stretch out his hand against the Lord's (Yahweh's) anointed and be without guilt?"
And the three sons of Zeruiah were there, Joab, Avishai, and Asahel. And Asahel was as light (agile, swift) on his feet as a gazelle in the field.
But Joab and Avishai pursued Avner, and the sun was setting when they came to the hill of Amma, which is before Gihon, on the way to the wilderness of Gibeon.
And Joab and Avishai, his brother, struck Abner because he had killed their brother Asahel at Gibeon in the battle.
and he entrusted the rest of the people to his brother Avishai, and he placed them in battle formation against the Ammonites.
And when the sons of Ammon saw that the Arameans had fled, they likewise fled before Avishai and entered the city [the Ammonite capital of Rabbah, present-day Amman]. Then Joab returned from the sons of Ammon and came to Jerusalem.
And Avishai, the son of Zerah, said to the king, "Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me go over, I beg you, and take off his head."
And David said to Avishai and to all his servants, "Behold, my son, who came from my body, seeks my soul (my life). How much more now this Benjaminite? Leave him alone and let him curse, for the Lord (Yahweh) has told him.
And David sent out the people, a third under the command of Joab, a third under the command of Abishai, the son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, and a third under the command of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said to the people, "I myself will surely go with you."
But the king commanded Joab and Avishai and Ittai, saying, "For my sake, treat the young man Avshalom gently." And all the people heard when the king gave orders to all the leaders concerning Avshalom.
And the man said to Joab, "Even if I had 1,000 pieces of silver in my hand, I would not stretch out my hand against the king's son, for we heard the king command you and Avishai and Ittai, saying, 'Be careful not to touch the young man Absalom.
But Avishai, the son of Zerah, answered and said, "Should not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the Lord's (Yahweh's) anointed?"
And David said to Avishai, "Now Sheba, the son of Bichri, will do us more harm than Absalom did. Take your lord's servants and pursue him, lest he take fortified cities and escape from our sight."
But Amasa did not think about the sword in Joab's hand, and he struck him in the groin with it, and his entrails came out, and he did not strike him again, and he died. And Joab and his brother Avishai pursued Sheba, the son of Bichri.
But Avishai, the son of Zeruiah, helped him [David] and struck down the Philistine and killed him. And David's men swore to him, saying, "You shall not go out with us to battle again, lest you quench the lamp of Israel."
And Avishai, Joab's brother, the son of Zeruiah, was the leader of the other three []. And he lifted up his spear against 300 and struck them down, and had a name (was highly regarded) among the three.
Their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. [David also has a wife by the same name, see ] Zeruiah's sons were Avishai, Joab, and Asahel—three in all.
Avishai, Joab's brother, was the foremost of three others. He once swung his spear over 300 slain men. He had a great name among the three.
After Avishai, the son of Zeruiah, had defeated the Edomites in the Valley of Salt, 18,000 men,
He entrusted the rest of the army to his brother Avishai, and they took up their position against the Ammonites.
When the Ammonites saw that the Arameans were fleeing, they also fled before his brother Avishai and entered the city. And Joab came to Jerusalem.
